Ahad, 22 February 2009 - Bandar Seri Begawan - In Conjunction with the country's Silver Jubilee Anniversary, Persatuan Melayu Keriam (PESAKA) Tutong with cooperation from the Mukim Keriam Consultative Council held a procession dubbed "Perarakkan Semarak Semangat Cintai Negara Ku" yesterday.

The procession started at Jalan Kecil Ikas Bandung and was participated by more than 25 four-wheel vehicles, 25 motorcycles and 60 bicycles. The event started off with the recital of surah al- fatihah followed by a doa read by the Imam of Kampong Kupang Mosque. On hand to officiate the event was the Penghulu of Kampong Keriam, Orang Kaya Jaya Putera Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Taha Abd Rauf. The procession through six villages within Mukim Keriam started in Kampong Kupang with a stopover at a local vegetable stall to plant a tree, followed by Kampong Sungai Kelugos in the Balai Raya area,

Kampong Sinaut that also saw the planting of a tree at the village head's residence, Kampong Luagan in the Balai Raya area, Kampong Bait Panggal in the Mosque area and Kampong Keriam in the Dewan Wawasan Bangunan Pesaka area. The trees were planted by each respective village heads and witnessed by participants. During the tree planting in Kampung Keriam, the guest of honour, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Pengiran Abdul Haris Pengiran Haji Shabudin, was present and a speech was delivered by chairman Ahanapi Haji Mahadi followed by a speech from Orang Kaya Jaya Putera Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Taha Abd Rauf. The event also saw the presentation of certificates to village heads by the guest of honour. The event was further enlivened with a `silat' presentation performed by the BASIKAM group as well as a poetry recital entitled `Semarak Cinta 25 Tahun Kemerdekaan' authored by Tinta Merah@Hamzah Suhaili. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
